Impressions of Machneyehuda market, Jerusalem
I love food markets, and whenever I travel, I aim to see the local ones. I am fascinated by smells and sounds, the people behind the counters as well as those walking around, and of course, the endless taste explosions. I never miss a trip to La Boqueria every time I visit Barcelona, I pop by Camden Market whenever I can, and on my recent trip to Israel, I knew we would be spending some time in Machneyehuda market in Jerusalem.
We ended up going twice; once in the evening when there were only a few places still open and the atmosphere was more that of a late night jazz venue, with some live music and shisha, and then again the next day when it was buzzing and bustling. I am really glad we saw both sides, as the feeling was very different. I for one loved both, but preferred the daytime, as there was even more to see, smell, taste, and buy!
