WoF 2015: Persiana feast, the desserts
After a lot of mezze, and some superb mains, we had almost forgotten about dessert. What a travesty! Our bellies were so full that we decided to have a wee swadge before attempting to eat any more. This was ideal, as the cigars needed some time in the oven anyway.
Wait, you don’t know what a swadge is? It’s an Orcadian word, and ridiculously relevant to the Weekend of Food (and my life)! Read the definition here.
Syrup-poached apricots with walnuts and clotted cream
How can so much flavour come from such a little fruit? Oh. It’s the poaching liquid of destiny. Cardamom, cinnamon, vanilla… the subtle sweetness just blew me away.
I’d never had clotted cream apart from on scones, but this is the perfect use for it.
Cinnamon and citrus almond pastry cigars
Slightly Christmassy, and not too sweet, we couldn’t fit more than one into our stomachs, but we saved the rest for breakfast the next morning to go with the plum cake!
All in all, the entire weekend was a resounding success. I cannot wait to see what’s on the cards for 2016…
